Wednesday’s Emmerdale episode, accessible on ITV X, marked an emotional moment as Mary Goskirk parted ways with the villagers.
In the latest episode, hearts were heavy as Mary attempted to reconcile with Vanessa Woodfield, but her efforts met a dead end.
Fans of the soap will remember how Vanessa was devastated upon discovering that it was Mary who shared a secret kiss with Suzy prior to her tragic demise in the limo accident earlier this year.
Within Wednesday’s poignant scenes, Mary entrusted her plans to Rhona Goskirk, expressing her intention to vacate the village momentarily to give Vanessa space.
Offering further explanations for her decision, Mary voiced her desire for distance to allow Rhona, Marlon Dingle and April Windsor to mend their relationship and strive towards familial harmony once more, without her presence, reports Leeds Live.
She said: “I think I might go away for a while. Visit your aunty Vivian down in Brighton”, adding: “You said it yourself, Vanessa needs space – and I think you lot do as well. Just look at everything that’s gone on here lately – you didn’t even have a clue.
“You’ve all been through so much, I think you need to figure out what it is to be a family again. What you don’t need is a live-in granny, making it all harder.”
Confirming her departure, Mary said: “It won’t be for long, poppet. I’m always at the end of the phone.”
Mary’s abrupt departure is likely to stir speculation among fans as to whether this beloved character has exited the village permanently.
However, viewers need not worry as Digital Spy report that it’s just an ‘on-screen break’ for the character and she will be returning at a later date.
It comes as viewers witnessed Joe Tate depart for Dubai on Monday’s episode following his alarming attack on Caleb Milligan— all in order to steal his kidney.
Fans of the soap have been left pondering if this marks the end for Joe, especially since he seems to have eluded justice for his vile act.
But it looks like Joe, who made an unexpected comeback last December after a six-year absence, won’t escape retribution, indicating he might soon reappear in the village.
An Emmerdale spokesperson told Metro: “Emmerdale covers a wide ranging scope of subjects in its storytelling. From births to deaths and everything in between, the nightly stories entertain, inform and raise awareness.
“We regularly work with organisations, help groups and charities for the portrayal of many of these subjects. But sometimes our characters go rogue acting out of desperation or whilst under pressure. Joe Tate’s desperate actions are not being held up as an example and as with any soap villain he will ultimately get his comeuppance.”
