90 Day Fiance’s Paul Staehle Says He’s in a ‘Non-Toxic Healthy Relationship’ as He’s ‘Mentally Healing’

90 Day Fiancé alum Paul Staehle has revealed that he’s in a new “healthy” relationship following his split from estranged wife Karine Staehle (née Martins).

The reality star, 42, took to his Instagram on Monday, April 14, to share photos of himself standing behind a table filled with food to celebrate his birthday, which he revealed was put together by his girlfriend.

“Earlier this month, someone extremely special and dear to my heart surprised me on my Birthday. She made delicious homemade food and decorations. Even made me a cake,” Paul captioned the post. “I was alone all day, and when I walked home from going to the gym, I was blessed with this heartfelt surprise. She was the only one to do something for me. Even with her extremely busy schedule and during law school exam week, she made time and effort to make me feel special.”

The Kentucky native added that it “feels good to have a “non-toxic healthy relationship with someone,” although he noted that he’s “still adjusting to a healthy relationship vs. a toxic one.”

“And I highly appreciate her understanding and patience with me as I am still mentally healing,” he continued.

Paul concluded that he and his girlfriend agreed to “keep [the] relationship private,” so they will not be posting any photos online together.

Paul and Karine, 29, had a rocky on-off romance that first played out on season 1 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days in 2017. After tying the knot that year, the couple later welcomed son Pierre in March 2019 and son Ethan in February 2021.

The former couple lost custody of their kids in June 2022 when Child Protective Services took Pierre and Ethan as a result of Paul and Karine’s frequent relationship issues.

“The children were taken because we had a lot of verbal altercations, which in Kentucky they take very seriously,” Paul told Newsweek at the time. “Because we’re public figures, everything was blown out of proportion.”

Pierre later went missing in July 2022 and was believed to be with Paul. After the boy was found, he and his brother went into foster care until Paul’s cousin took custody of them, and they have been in his cousin’s care ever since.

Though Paul and Karine tried to make their relationship work amid their fight to regain custody of Pierre and Ethan, the pair split for the final time in early 2023. Karine, who is currently living in Kentucky while Paul is residing in Brazil, has since reportedly moved on with another man, according to blogger John Yates. She also hinted in March that she was pregnant and expecting a baby girl.

In the description of a GoFundMe page asking for donations to help her regain custody of Pierre and Ethan, Karine wrote, “A new law is about to go into effect in [Kentucky,] Kentucky House Bill 574, which will allow the government to take my newborn baby after she is born and not allow me around her unsupervised. I breastfeed my children, and this is a huge problem for me. I know I have made many mistakes in my past, but I love all my children and want to be with them.”
