Melanie Hill claims Casualty’s drama outshines Coronation Street’s! Watch her reveal shocking comparisons

Melanie Hill believes that the drama on Casualty is more intense than the ups and downs she was confronted with on Coronation Street.

The soap star, 62, made her debut in the BBC One medical drama earlier this year as clinical nurse manager and clinical lead of Holby City Hospital, ED Siobhan McKenzie.

She was joined this Monday by Casualty co-star Charles Venn aka Chucky Venice as they chatted to Rochelle Humes and Dermot O’Leary on This Morning. When grilled over her latest TV gig, Melanie said: “There’s so much going on in each episode and I think it shows.”

In a veiled jibe at Corrie, she then compared: “This is what makes Casualty different to a soap, because we’re involved with people having the worst day of their lives so the drama is ramped up immediately. You’ve got all of our lives on the show but then you’ve got these complete tragedies unfolding.”

Before taking on the role of Siobhan McKenzie, Melanie Hill starred in the Manchester-based drama as retail assistant and co-owner of The Kabin, Cathy Matthews.

Cathy was first introduced in April, 2015, when she grew closer to Corrie stalwart Roy Cropper (played by David Neilson), who jilted her, before eventually embarking on a secret relationship with Brian Packham (Peter Gunn).

After a seven-year run in the cobbles, Cathy decided it was time for her to leave Weatherfield in June, 2022. She was last seen calling time on her romance with Brian and waving goodbye to her friends, ready for a fresh start in Australia.

She was then announced to join the Casualty line-up in late 2023, sharing a post on her social media account stating: “Couldn’t be more happy. I’m super excited for the year ahead working with such brilliant folks @BBCCasualty @BBC.”
