The 9-1-1 franchise will lose 9-1-1: Lone Star following its fifth season, meaning that one of my greatest hopes for the Texas-based show will never materialize. Fox’s procedural drama is a 9-1-1 spinoff and follows the lives of first responders (including firefighters, paramedics, and police officers) in Austin, Texas. Fox previously canceled 9-1-1 before it moved to ABC for its seventh season, while the network renewed 9-1-1: Lone Star for a fifth season, but it was only a matter of time before the spinoff was also nixed. Unfortunately for 9-1-1: Lone Star, though, ABC won’t pick it up for more episodes.
9-1-1 season 8, which will likely include around 18 episodes, premieres on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 8 pm ET on ABC. Meanwhile, 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 will have 12 episodes and premiere on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 8 pm ET on Fox.
The beginning of the end of 9-1-1: Lone Star kicks off in late September 2024 with a three-part premiere revolving around a catastrophic train derailment. Season 5 will also deal with the exit of Sierra McClain’s Grace Ryder, Carlos Reyes’ new job as a Texas Ranger, Judd Ryder leaving Station 126 behind to take care of his son, Tommy Vega’s developing relationship with Pastor Trevor, and more. So, the 9-1-1: Lone Star characters have a lot on their plate. As a result, there is seemingly no room for the addition of a 9-1-1 series regular in the spinoff.
911 Season 7 Finale Sets Up Eddie’s Transfer To 911 Lone Star
Christopher Moved To Texas To Live With His Grandparents
During the ending of 9-1-1 season 7, Christopher discovered that his father, Eddie Díaz, was having an emotional affair with Kim, who looks identical to Eddie’s former wife and Christopher’s mother. Shannon. As some will recall, Shannon died in 9-1-1 season 2. So, seeing Eddie (who was dating Marisol) with Kim was a big shock to Christopher. The young boy contacted his grandparents, who then moved Christopher to Texas to live with them. After this heartbreak, I thought that Christopher moving to Texas would prompt Eddie to follow him, simultaneously transferring to Station 126.
Eddie’s transfer [to the 126 in 9-1-1: Lone Star ] could have been a great opportunity for him to grow as a character.
Eddie joining the cast of 9-1-1: Lone Star would have been an exciting way to keep the spinoff tied to the original series despite the two shows being on different networks. Plus, Eddie’s transfer could have been a great opportunity for him to grow as a character. But now that 9-1-1: Lone Star has been canceled, Eddie will likely be stuck in Los Angeles, trying to cope with the loss of his son and girlfriend.
What To Expect From Eddie’s Story In 911 Season 8
Will Eddie Reunite With His Son?
Since Eddie stays at Station 118 in Los Angeles in 9-1-1 season 8, he might start to regress toward who he was at the beginning of the series. Eddie could also spiral without his son, and Vincent Gerard replacing Bobby Nash as 118’s captain certainly won’t help Eddie’s character development. Or perhaps Christopher moving to Texas will give Eddie the time he needs to grow. Whatever the case, fans should expect to see Eddie missing his son when 9-1-1 season 8 premieres, and it’s unclear when he will get to reunite with Christopher.
