Shawn has been in the beauty industry for almost two decades, having started doing hair and makeup in 1996.

“So I’ve done everything, movies and TV, and major shows like Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, films like Men in Black, Scream,” he explained during his debut on episode 4 on season 11 of 90 Day Fiancé. “And I’ve done it for 35 years.”

He began his career by opening a salon in Santa Rosa, California, before branching out and renting a hairstylist station at a Beverly Hills salon. It was there he was approached by actress Debra Messing’s stylist, who needed help for a series called Ned & Stacey. He later closed his Santa Rosa salon to focus on his clientele in Los Angeles, and continues to work on shows like The Voice.

“I never wanted to do this for money or fame,” he told The Press Democrat in August 2014. “For me, it’s always about how exciting it is to see people transformed. In just two hours, you can see a complete change in a person to where they look and feel more beautiful and more confident. It’s uplifting for them and me.”

The reality TV personality is highly accomplished in his field, earning multiple Creative Arts Emmy nominations for his work on set.

Shawn also earns a paycheck for his appearances on the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. Shawn and Alliya de Batista made their debut on season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise in 2024. After getting engaged on the spinoff, they returned to document the K-1 visa process on 90 Day Fiancé season 11.

While it’s unclear exactly how much Shawn made per season, a source previously told Radar Online that the of 90 Day Fiancé cast’s salaries work on a sliding pay scale.

“Before the 90 Days cast makes $500 to $1,000 per episode” each, the insider said of a couple’s initial debut to the franchise. If they return for another 90 Day Fiancé spinoff, their pay typically increases to “$1,000 to $1,500 per episode,” the source added.

Returning to the franchise on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? will earn the cast a little more cash, but it “doesn’t go up much more,” the insider added.
