In the penultimate episode of 9-1-1 season seven, the relationship between Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) and his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh) takes a dramatic turn when Christopher and Eddie’s girlfriend, Marisol (Edy Ganem), walk in on Eddie embracing a woman named Kim (Devin Kelley). Kim is a dead ringer for Eddie’s late wife, Shannon, and Eddie has started an emotional affair with her in an attempt to relive what could have been with Shannon. This revelation causes turmoil in Eddie’s relationship with his son.
In the finale, after witnessing the scene, Christopher locks himself in his room and calls his grandparents to take him back to Texas. Despite his heartbreak, Eddie decides to let his son go. “I’m letting you go, but you can always come back,” Eddie tells Christopher in a touching moment.
Ryan Guzman, who plays Eddie, explains that Eddie realizes he is no longer the best part of Christopher’s life. This marks a significant turning point for the character, setting the stage for new directions in season eight, where Eddie will have to face changes both at home and at work.
Meanwhile, at Firehouse 118, Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) returns after stepping down due to guilt, but his position has already been filled by Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson), a former captain with a racist past. This creates new tension within the firehouse and brings fresh challenges for the characters in the upcoming season.
