9-1-1: Lone Star EP Hints At One Cast Member’s Potential Return In Season 5

9-1-1: Lone Star co-showrunner and executive producer Rashad Raisani hints that one cast member will return for the show’s final episodes. 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 will have a lot to address as the 9-1-1 spinoff prepares to sign off. There’s the exit of original cast member Sierra McClain, who parted ways with her role as Grace Ryder, causing reverberations for the rest of the first-responder drama. But other cast members, such as Rafael Silva’s Carlos Reyes, will also be going on their own journey.

In an interview with Screen Rant‘s Rachel Foertsch, ahead of the debut of 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 on Monday, September 23 at 8 PM on Fox, Raisani was asked whether recurring cast member Benito Martinez might appear in the show’s final episodes. Martinez plays Gabriel Reyes, Carlos’ father, who was killed off in season 4. Raisani, who serves as showrunner with co-creator Tim Minear, hinted that Gabriel could appear via flashbacks:

Screen Rant : Well, flashbacks do happen…is it possible that we could see Benito Martinez again in some capacity?

Raisani : Nothing’s impossible. I’ll just say nothing’s impossible. Put it that way.

What Does Gabriel’s Potential Return Mean For 9-1-1 Lone Star Season 5?

Carlos Is Starting A New Chapter

It’s been confirmed that, in the spinoff’s final season, Carlos has graduated from the Austin Police Department. He’s now a Texas Ranger, following in the footsteps of Gabriel. It promises to be an emotional storyline, especially because Carlos does not know who killed his dad in 9-1-1: Lone Star season 4. In previous comments, Raisani stressed that Carlos is still very much coming to terms with the ramifications of the tragic mystery.

Gabriel’s death occurs when he is getting ready to attend his son’s wedding to TK (Ronen Rubenstein). He answers the door and gets shot by an unknown assailant, with his murder hanging over the rest of season 4’s episodes. This will add another wrinkle to the final episodes of the spinoff, which will welcome actor Parker Young as Campbell. He’ll play Campbell, Carlos’ partner, and it’s teased that the two have a special chemistry.

Our Take On Actors Returning For 9-1-1: Lone Star

It’s Likely To Happen

Although it’s not explicitly stated, the spinoff will likely want to wrap its stories by bringing back at least a few familiar faces and provide audiences with a sense of closure. Over the years, there have been game-changing exits and emotional departures that may be addressed in some way as the spinoff prepares to say goodbye.

The spinoff’s cast also includes Rob Lowe, Gina Torres, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Julian Works, and Brianna Baker, in addition to Kelsey and Skyler Yates and Jackson Pace.

Still, of all the potential character cameos, Gabriel Reyes may be the most likely candidate to appear in 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 since his storyline is still so closely tied to Carlos and his son’s new chapter as a Texas Ranger. A flashback may also provide more details into his death.
